News from My Writing World: February 2019

by K. Kris Loomis in News from My Writing World

Happy February, everyone! ❤️

We all know that Valentine’s Day rules in February, so it only makes sense that this month is also National Creative Romance Month 🌹 and the American Heart Month ❤️. But did you know that it’s also the National Library Lovers Month 📚 and National Bird Feeding Month 🐦?

I love books, birds, and romance, so I plan on having a good month!

WIP (Work in Progress) Update

I am happy to announce that I just finished the first draft of my ghost story novella, Two Mothers, and have sent it off to my beta readers. As soon as I hear back from them I will make my final edits and send it on to my proofreader.

Want a peek at the cover?

I’d love to know what you think of the cover, so leave me a comment below!

Other News from My Writing World

I published my latest short story collection, 100 Tiny Tales: Short Stories Told in Exactly One Hundred Words, in January and have been blown away by the response. You can check the book out HERE and read a review of the collection on Dawn’s Bound 4 Escape blog HERE!

And my good friend and fellow author, Michelle Cornish, recently asked me if she could interview me for her YouTube channel and I, of course, said yes! If you’d like to hear us discuss writing and get a glimpse of my writing process, you can find the interview HERE.

What I’m Reading

I just finished reading the classic book, The Haunting of Hill House, by Shirley Jackson. This was a creepy get-under-your-skin type of horror book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Now I need to check out the series that was based on this book on Netflix! You can see the book on Amazon HERE.

Thank you for your interest in my writing and as always, if you ever have a question or comment for me all you have to do is leave me a comment or click on one of the social media buttons above and I’ll get back in touch ASAP.

Until next time, happy reading and writing.

  1. Robin says:

    Hi Kris,

I was curious if you have a few tips for organizing projects like anthologies?
Like a separate file folder for each project? Or do you have them on your computer? Index cards?! Lol

I would greatly appreciate anything you can think of to help in this regard.

    I know you’re super busy. 🙂

    Thanks so much

    Robin Klammer.

    • Hey, Robin!

I write in Scrivener, which makes it super easy to arrange any type of project into folders. There is a pretty steep learning curve, but I know of several great and inexpensive courses that teach you how to get the most out of the program. There are other options, of course, but I can’t speak to their organizational aspects because I write exclusively in Scrivener.

      Thanks for reading!

  2. Your cover totally creeps me out, so: SCORE! I can’t wait to read it.

Robin, I had been using Scrivener for a couple of years but was clueless as to all its capabilities until I took a free course, which barely scratched the surface. Then I realize there are plenty of free YouTube tutorials. If you’re interested in trying it, let us know how it goes.

Related to your question: Scrivener has a corkboard view that lets you move chapters and other elements around (drag and drop) to get organized. (And that’s only one level of awesomeness.)
